Another vocal member of the team regularly engaging in banter, "The Machine" was again unstoppable in 2003, taking 50 wkts at 8.64, and generally scaring the shit out of oppositions and any umpires turning down LBW appeals. The fiery opener turned the tide against decent batting sides both home or away, and turned wins into all-out drubbings. Despite several heated showdowns with various oppositions the class shone through, five five wicket hauls and the ridiculous 8-28 against E. Tytherley II in the penultimate match of the season. These stats translated into Nick being best bowler in the league (again). Nick showed for another year he can bowl consistently quickly, accurately and find the edges and bounce for long spells. This great form may well have been increased as he was in the minority of Idlers who turned up game in game out hungover/still drunk/"relaxed". Nicko also featured in his contract fielding position, fine leg (to save time and effort when bowling from the same end) where he could safely heckle other fielders and more importantly save the inevitable byes, wides etc. Having noticably concentrated on the bowling this season he was happy to bat in the tail, scoring invaluable runs late in the inings, halving his runs tally.(probably testimony to the influx of new top order batsmen this year) However he scored a total of 112 runs in 2003 at an average of 16.
