SHEPHERD’S 132 GUIDES IDLERS TOWARDS MAXIMUM POINTS

Idlers 277-6 beat Redlynch & Hale 2nds 93 all out by 184 runs

The Idlers cruised to a simple win over struggling R&H to continue their pressure on the league leaders with a maximum points performance on their home turf at Harnham.

George Shepherd’s second century of the season was a mere three runs away from breaking the Idlers’ record for their highest individual score. Posting a score of 132, Shepherd did however break the record for the number of 6s hit in a game thumping nine in total including four off a single over in an innings that was at times dismissive. The young visiting side dropped Shepherd in his twenties and were not given a second chance until he was caught at deep mid-wicket in the 38th over. His century came up after he had faced exactly 100 balls and he continued to tarnish the opponents bowling figures with his customary gusto until his dismissal.

During Shepherd’s lengthy knock he was ably supported by Alex Richards whose innings of 28 impressed, up until his dismissal, and Simeon Douse who looked set to also procure a big score until he was out for 33. Jasper Gilbey (42) and Shepherd put on 115 for the fourth wicket partnership that they knocked-up in only ten overs to put the game way beyond the reach of the young R&H side.

Faced with a mountain to climb R&H started their response at strolling pace and as the run-rate towered over them, the game quickly ran away from them.

A mischievous pitch and pacey bowling performances from Martin Clements and Rawle Beckles lead to them bagging a haul of three wickets each. Clements in particular impressed with a fiery burst to remove potential danger-man, Truckle. Gilbey also got in on the act with a brace and skipper Andy Harms tossed one up to seal the win and maximum bowling points to add to the batting points accrued earlier in the afternoon.
