Langley Manor (A) - 2 July 2011
Lost by by 186 runs

Langley Manor 285/7 (24pts) beat Idlers 99/10 (3pts) by 186 runs

Langley Manor is a ground as pleasant as it sounds. The New Forest lined two sides of the boundary and a collection of sun loungers littered the other half. The wicket looked hard and the outfield lightning fast and it was a setback for the Idlers to lose the toss and find themselves in the field. The Langley openers started in aggressive fashion dispatching anything overpitched or short. Steve Haugh followed last week’s 8-19 with another fluent spell and along with Chris Warde 1-24 they stemmed the scoring rate. Graham Noble batted with poise and despite Haugh picking up two wickets he began to cut loose against the change bowlers. The Langley run rate began to climb and a full assault was launched as Noble reached his hundred and went on to make 134 despite being dropped three times. Their eventual total of 285/7 looked competitive but not insurmountable.

Idlers response started slowly and the Langley bowlers consistently bowled tight lines and gave little away. As the pressure built the wickets tumbled as soon a score of 39/6 was alarmingly displayed on the scoreboard. Steve Haugh 31 ensured the score flirted with respectability but this remained a very disappointing day for Idlers and a record loss of 186 runs ensued. With a number of key players struggling for form and a dearth of runs at the top order the Idlers, for their first time in their history, are facing a battle against relegation.
