Holybourne (H) - 14 July 2007

IDLERS BOUNCE BACK IN STYLE

The Idlers convincingly beat league leaders Holybourne on Saturday by 68 runs. With virtually the same team as the one bowled out for 32 the previous week, Idlers amassed a huge 278 for 6. The momentum of the innings was kick started by opener Nathan Dod (21) before Jasper Gilbey launched into a graceful assault of the opposition bowlers. Gilbey’s magnificent 115 included 10 sixes out of a team total of 19, latching onto anything short and driving with authority the Harnham crowd were treated to an exhibition of masterful strokeplay. Following Gilbey’s dismissal the middle order compounded Holybourne’s misery. George Shepherd cleared the river at the meadow end in his 43 before Ben Impey added 6 more maximums in an unbeaten 65. Holybourne made little attempt to chase once Nick Lawrence had ripped through their top order with four early wickets. They did restore some pride with opener Kersley top scoring with 131 out of a total of 210 for 7 but the Idlers score was just too big. Lawrence finished with 5-29 and the home team’s league reputation was firmly restored.
