IDLERS KEEP TITLE HOPES ALIVE

An emphatic fourth victory on the trot has seen the Idlers climb to second in the table. Electing to bat on a rare hard wicket captain Andy Harms produced a memorable unbeaten 143 out of a total of 267 for 5.

Despatching any loose bowling and capitalising on some poor opposition fielding Harms broke the club record for the highest individual score. The daunting target proved beyond Overton once they were reduced to 2 for 2 in an outstanding opening over from new recruit Tim Bryson. A brief rally by the middle order kept up with the asking rate but once the opening bat edged one through to the keeper, wickets tumbled and Overton were bowled out for 136. All the bowlers chipped in, with an accurate Betenson grabbing 2 and Bryson and Gilbey taking 3 each. With 2 games remaining the Idlers retain a realistic hope of winning Regional Division 1 North at the first time of asking. This Saturday’s fixture welcomes Old Alresford to the Harnham fortress in the last home game of the season.
