Longford Park (H) - 5 August 2006
Won by 95 Runs

Idlers 191-9 beat Longford Park 96 by 95 runs

The Idlers' table-topping form continued on saturday with their tenth win of the season on a muggy afternoon on a bowler-friendly track at their home ground in Harnham.

After being put into bat by the visitors, the Idlers failed to play the swinging ball and were reduced to 22-4 after only five overs with S.Middlecote (3-31) doing most of the damage. The fifth wicket partnership of Max Biles and Ben Impey attempted to rebuild the faltering Idlers' innings but the flamboyant Impey (30), on his return from injury, was dismissed when the score was only 77-5. In a characteristically gritty innings Biles remained steadfast at the crease and grafted his way to a season's best score of 67* from 37 overs in which he guided the home team's total to a defendable score. He was helped by a wagging tail which almost clinched maximum batting points thanks to a last wicket partnership of 42 between Biles and, probably the best number 11 in the league, Martin Clements (23*).

Buoyed by their morale-boosting fightback the enthused Idlers started the defence of their total in style with openers, Clements (3-24) and debutant Tom Myatt (4-34), both utilising the unpredictable bounce to provide catches for short-leg fielder Alex Ince. In a hostile period of bowling, the spearheads of the Idlers' attack picked up three wickets a-piece and Myatt also claimed a run out with a direct hit. Longford Park struggled to recover from the opening onslaught and wickets for Rawle Beckles and Jack Bettinson sealed the victory. Myatt impressed on his debut with a spirited all round performance in which his rapid bowling, big-hitting and safe hands ensured he'll receive another call-up.
