Locks Heath (A) - 7 May 2011
Lost by 5 wickets

Idlers 115 AO lost by 5 wickets to Locks Heath 117-5

The Idlers 2011 season and their first game in County Division 1 sadly didnít get off to a flying start as they fell short of the mark against a more experienced and composed Locks Heath team.

Having lost the toss the Idlers were put into bat on a typical early season wicket that would prove to offer plenty of movement for both sets of bowlers. The Idlers opening batsmen J.Cranch and A.Ince, equipped themselves well against the new ball punishing any loose deliveries as the Locks Heath bowlers initially struggled to find a suitable line and length. However once the Idlers had reached 50 both openers fell in quick succession due to some accurate bowling and sharp catches by Locks Heath.

C.Sheppard (34) played some glorious fluent cricket shots and he looked to have put the Idlers innings back on track but his dismissal, like so many of his team mates, was the result of a loose shot when a more level headed approach was required. The fact that all 10 Idlers wickets fell to catches before the 45th over speaks volumes for the teamís mindset or lack off it as the Idlers were dismissed for 115.

With such a small total to defend the Idlers had to attack and the veteran opening bowling combination of M.Clements (7-1-20-2) and N.Lawrence (7.5-0-49-2) proved their worth again. Clements in particular was moving the ball impeccably. Yet again though a lack of concentration and discipline cost the Idlers, this time in the field, as multiple catches were missed. In reality they would not have affected the outcome of the fixture as the Locks Heath batsmen never looked too uncomfortable eventually knocking off the runs with the lose of 5 wickets.

The Idlers have much to reflect and work on for next weeks fixture as they welcome Waterlooville to Harnham.
