Leckford II (A) - 13 May 2006
Won by 182 Runs

At the picturesque Leckford ground, the Idlers continued their formidable early season form with a comprehensive victory over newly promoted Leckford IIs.

After winning the toss and electing to bat the Idlers slipped to 5-2 after only four overs, unfortunately for Leckford this was to be their only period of dominance in a one-sided game. The arrival at the crease of skipper, Andy Harms, and recent acquisition, George Shepherd, marked the beginning of a record 3rd wicket partnership for the club and its second highest ever partnership. The two batsmen saw off the Leckford opening bowlers through determined defence and gradually upped the run-rate through energetic running and shot placement on a slow outfield.

Once both Harms and Shepherd had settled, they proceeded to punish the supporting bowlers and frustrate the Leckford fielders with masterclasses in how to build innings. Shepherd was the faster scorer hitting two massive sixes over long-on in a knock of 113* in only his second apperance for the club. Harms, the Idlers' leading runs scorer, was never far behind and he too scored an unbeaten century when he clubbed a four in the last over of the innings to reach 103*.

Chasing a large total was never going to be easy, especially when paceman Nick Lawrence, in his first match of the season, was bowling with his customary fire. He got the first breakthrough in what was to be a five wicket haul for a paltry 18 runs. Simeon Douse (3-16) and a brace from Martin Clements helped skittle the home team out for only 52 runs to leave the jubilant Idlers easy victors in their second maximum points win of the season.
