Ryde (A) - 20 August 2011
Lost by 30 Runs
BATTING AGAIN THE CAUSE OF IDLERS DEFEAT

Ryde (170 all out) beat Idlers (140 all out) by 30 runs.

The Idlers arrived at the beautiful Ryde Ground on The Isle of Wight for the penultimate game of the Season. With 11 squad members at the Chairman, Will Kay’s, wedding it was left to the strength and depth of the maverick squad to finish the Idlers season on a high.

Stand in Captain Joe Cranch won the toss and with over night rain and good cloud cover he did not hesitate to insert the opposition.

Steve Haugh (2-33) and Travis Bartels (3-57) bowled with good pace on a bouncy wicket and by the time they had both bowled their 10 overs straight through Ryde were reduced to 90 for 5.

Good support bowling from Rawle Beckles (2-35) and brought the score to 107 for 7 and Ryde looked to be dead a buried. A fighting partnership of 59 for the 8th wicket between T. Morgan (40) and B. Dore (25) brought Ryde back into the game before Johnny Shears (2-4) quickly mopped up the tail and Ryde finished on 170 all out.

George Hayward (9) and Steve Haugh (6) opened the Idlers innings with 26 off 8 overs before D. Gordon (4-34) bowled one bouncer to many for Hayward.

Joe Cranch (68) then came to the crease and batted naturally with some excellent strokes all around the ground including three giant six’s.

But with wickets falling at regular intervals the Idlers could not build any partnership and with no other batsman getting into double figures Joe Cranch was left all alone.

The Idlers fell 30 runs short and welcome Purbrook this weekend for their final game at Harnham.

Team: J Cranch (WK/Captain), G Hayward, S Haugh, C Sheppard, S Douse, T Bartells, J Shears, J Elford, R Beckles, R James, T Hayward
