Michelmersh and Timsbury (A) - 12 August 2006
Lost by 3 Wickets

Idlers 150 lost by 3 wickets to Michelmersh & Timsbury 151-7

The Idlers' promotion hopes were dented away at Michelmersh & Timsbury as they lost for the second time this season. Electing to bat on a blustery afternoon, the Idlers' top and middle order batsmen had a day to forget as they were dismissed for a paltry 150 which included only three scores in double figures and three ducks.

A veneer of respectibility was added by Simeon Douse who kept his head whilst those around him did not and hit a superb 88. A strong puller of the ball and accomplished driver, Douse opened the batting and partnered every batsmen until undone by a jaffa twelve runs short of his century. Douse's patience and innings-building nous did not rub off on his team-mates on a day where over-complacency tainted the team.

Gay was the pick of the M&T bowlers with a twelve over spell that yielded figures of 5-30. Left-armer Rhodes and young spinner Foulkes each picked up a brace of wickets.

The Idlers started poorly in the defence of their total and only got the first breakthrough when M&T had 42 runs on the board. The introduction of Nick Lawrence swung the game back in the Idlers' favour by stifling the run-rate and picking up three wickets in an inspiring spell of 3-29 from his twelve overs. He was ably supported by Rawle Beckles (2-41) who bowled a key spell into the strong headwind. Lacklustre fielding and fluctuations in team morale undid Lawrence and Beckles' good work as T.Holland anchored his team's innings with a match-winning knock of 79*. Holland shepherded M&T's young team home with six overs to spare in a watchful innings.
